Hi all,
Well done to Lorraine for organising another great club aquathlon, there was a big turn out and an excellent set of results, with some new PBs set!
The men and woman's course records were both broken tonight as I managed to knock a few seconds of my previous time and Becks knocked 13 seconds off Ruth's record and a massive 47 seconds off her previous time.

I’m sure that you will all be excited to hear that the entry forms for the Morden Aquathlon 2009 are now available (link below), alternatively you can enter on Runners World

Runners World On-Line entry Morden 6n6 2009

The aquathlon consists of a 600m swim followed by a great 4 lap 6 mile cross country run and as if that isn’t a good enough reason to enter, the race is also in the London League and features on our points trophy.

Many thanks to Lorraine and the rest of her team for laying on an excellent aquathlon. Despite some people still felling the effects of the barn dance from the night before there was a great turnout some superb results. Attached is a copy of the results - hopefully we will see you all at the Tri Club annual dinner for the prize giving. Matt

Chris Costiff competed in the full Ironman distance race in the New Forest billed as the Forestman.  The event started at 5.30am on Sunday morning with a nice sunrise.  Chris was 4th woman out of the water in a time of 1.36 actual swim time and wondered why the time was slow we later found out the swim course was 400m long.  Chris had a really good bike leg and got of the bike in 2nd place.  This is where the race began with 3 girls all in contention.  Chris managed to get the lead at 21 miles and stay there while the girl in 3rd managed to take 2nd place.

Matt's race report from Hillingdon:

With excellent weather there were plenty of SLH triathletes out yesterday to take advantage of the great conditions at the Hillingdon Triathlon.

Despite the silly o’clock start, everyone was raring to go as we met in the race HQ at 7am where we were reminded that the race does not take the usual triathlon format as the swim is followed by the run and then onto the bikes.

Ruth was the first SLH out of the water but as she wrestled with her wetsuit I managed to get out on the run just before her.  Next out of the water was David, Brian and Beckie who all had a great swim finishing in around 11minutes 30.  The run course doubled back on its self so everyone was able to see how they were doing in relation to the leading group.

Ruth had a fantastic race, and despite being in fourth place after the run she had a storming ride to be the first lady home.

The donuts and cold cans of coke dished out at the finish were definitely well received, and certainly well deserved.  It was a great race that I will defiantly be doing again.  Well done to all those that took part and many thanks for the much appreciated support from Brian’s wife.

A great club turnout and excellent results at Hillingdon

Dear All

Our Tri club has just had one of it's busiest weekends of the Tri season.

The first of two Aquathlons took place on Friday and was a great success. Followed by our fantastic training day on Sunday.

A huge thanks goes out to Nigel and Chris for pulling it all together and another thank you to Matt and Becky for their enthusiastic input and culinary skills but also their delicious homemade apple cake, which went down a treat.

Also thanks to all those who came along and helped us make the day an enjoyable one for all. I hope you managed to pick up some tips and not pick up too much sun burn!

On the weather front it was spot on, lots of sunshine and a slight breeze, so the swim at the end of the day was very welcoming.

As you were all aware we were joined by John Horseman a Triathlon London level 3 BTF coach. His input t was very much appreciated and his feed back about our club was also very encouraging.

I would just like to add that Chris Costiff joined us later after completing a 100 mile TT, where she was 1st lady! Then drove 80 miles to join us, to take part in the swim session and of course a glass or two of wine. A very tough act to follow lads!

See you all soon and lets push the boat out for Hillingdon !!BRING IT ON !!

Regards

17th June 2008

Hi all,

There is loads going on this week so I thought I would just send out a quick reminder of what’s on the cards.

Thursday

Another gruelling brick session headed up by Nigel. Usual time, 6.45 at the club house or 7.00 up on Farthing Downs.

Friday

This Friday will see the first of the two SLH Aquathlons, the second of which will be on Saturday 13th September.

For the seniors the race will consist of a 400m swim followed by a 4km run while the juniors will do a 200m swim followed by a 2km run. There is a new and exciting run course which consists of a 1km loop as shown on the map, any feedback will be greatly received.

You will be able to register for the event from 7.00 in the car park at the far end of the swimming pool (this will also be the transition area). Everybody should be registered and changed ready for the race briefing at 7.30 so that we can start promptly at 7.45.

The event will cost £3.50 for seniors and £1.50 for the juniors.

Sunday

There are still places available for the Southwater training day so if you fancy coming along let us know ASAP so that we can ensure there be enough food on the bbq.

Hope to see you there, Matt

Hi all,

Lorraine and Ed raced in the Eaton Super Sprints on Saturday kicking off a great weekends racing for the tri club. Unfortunately they didn’t get Ed’s split times but he finished in 165th in a time of 1.09 and Lorraine finished 7th in her age category in 1.25.

Fortunately the weather was much improved come Sunday morning in time for the start of the East Grinstead triathlon. The race was this years club sprint champs and consequently there was a huge SLH turn out with 13 members of the club competing.

The ladies were well represented with Ruth and Chris both coming first in their age groups. Jane had a great race and finished in 3rd place and, despite Jim not being around to put her chain back on when it came off (!), Jennie finished 10th.

The men were also out in force. Nigel lead the way finishing 2nd in his age group, Dave, on his brand new bike successfully completed his first triathlon, he had a strong finish with the sixth fastest run. Also out for their first triathlon was Paul, he came out of the water in 264th place and then with excellent bike and run sections he worked his way up the rankings to finish 22nd!

Wednesday and Thursday night training

Due to the EGM this Wednesday there won’t be any open water swimming at Southwater. However, there run will be a ‘brick’ session on Thursday night, meet at the club house at 6.45 and we will then head up onto Farthing Downs for a half hour session.

See you there, Matt

EAST GRINSTEAD TRIATHLON 2008

Well done to all who took part today especially Matt Chapman who was first home for SLHTri and Ruth Hutton who was first in the v40-49 category.

The full results are now on www.egtri.com website and make interesting reading - I know what I'm going to be doing for the next few months!! Thanks to all who supported today and hope Jim and Andy are back competing soon.

Chris & Nigel took part in the Half Ironman in the New Forest on Sunday. This is a really well organised event and the weather was almost perfect apart from a bit windy on the bike course which also turned out to be 58 miles. Chris won her age group in a time of 5.49.11 and was 7th overall. Nigel did 6.30.17 after having a bit of trouble from dismounting his bike to actually getting running on the half marathon course.
